Ji Yishun entered the Yixing Zisha Craft Factory in Jiangsu Province in 1978, where he studied ceramics under Gao Lijun and Wang Xiaolong. In 1983, he went on to study at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. In the 1980s and 1990s, he was hailed by Taiwanese collectors as one of the "Four Little Dragons" of contemporary Zisha teapots (the other three being Jiang Jianxiang, Chen Guoliang, and Shi Xiaoma). In 2005, he was awarded the title of Senior Arts and Crafts Artist, Researcher Level. In 2010, he was recognized as a Master of Chinese Ceramic Art. In 2018, he was named one of the Seventh China Arts and Crafts Masters.
