Made by grand master Jiang Rong

Jiang Rong was born into a family of ceramic artists in Yixing. Her father, Jiang Hongquan, and mother, Zhou Xiubao, both made their livings as potters. She began learning the craft from her parents at age 11. In 1940, she moved to Shanghai, where she worked with her uncle, Jiang Honggao, on imitation-antique purple clay pots. In 1941, she became a purple clay craftsman at the Shanghai Standard Ceramics Company. She later returned to her hometown to continue her purple clay craftsmanship.

Jiang Rong was awarded the title of Arts and Crafts Artist in 1982. She joined the Communist Party of China in 1987. In 1989, she was awarded the title of Senior Arts and Crafts Artist and became a member of the China Arts and Crafts Association and an Honorary Director of the Jiangsu Arts and Crafts Association. In 1993, she was awarded the title of "Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts." In 2006, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture designated her as one of the first representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. That same year, she received the "Lifetime Achievement Award in Chinese Arts and Crafts" from the China Arts and Crafts Association. She passed away on February 19, 2008, at the age of 90.
